At the beginning of the 20th century new towage barges were built and motorised later on. Modern inland motorships followed and a few of the family switched over to the tankshipping. Now, for over a quarter of a century, our company is active in the chartering and management of tankships.
Mineral oils and chemicals are both transported by our fleet, and this over the entire european inland navigation network. Somtrans owns young and modern ships from the N - type as well as of the C - type. The capacity of the barges varies from 1.500 cbm up to 10.000 cbm. Some of the single hull and all of the double hull barges are provided with coating.
The double hull barges are mostly equipped with heatingcoils.
Our fleet consists of 30 ships, (6 single hull and 14 double hull) with a total loadingcapacity of 105.000 ton.
Also several private shipowners are transporting for many years for our company.
Also the society has obtained the ISO-9001 quality-certificate for the activity of chartering agency and tanker shipping company.
The modern office, built in 1996, is situated at the Albertkanaal in Wijnegem in the neighbourhood of Antwerp. Our staff members, as well in the office as on the ships, are still motivated professionals who are dedicated to the navigation and to their company. Our aim is to achieve a healthy expansion with high standard barges and qualified, well trained personnel.
